1.Program Overview & Eligibility Requirements

The Franco-Thai Young Talent Research Fellowship Program aims to jumpstarting the careers of young researchers between Thailand and France by giving them the opportunities to develop promising collaborations with their counterparts.
This program supports Thai and French postdoctoral researchers, who are lecturers and researchers in public or private institutions, intending to conduct a research project for a period of two (2) to six (6) months within a laboratory or research center in France (for Thai candidates) or in Thailand (for French candidates).

Eligibility

    • Thai Candidates : Must have been graduated PhD in 2021 or later and must be affiliated with an institution in Thailand.
    • French Candidates : Must have been graduated PhD in 2016 or later and must collaborate with institutions in Thailand.

All fields of research will be considered, with selection based on the principle of excellence.
For the candidates who are currently PhD student, they must complete their PhD by February 2026, prior to their departure to France or Thailand.
This program is a joint initiative co-funded by the Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B) in Thailand and the Embassy of France in Thailand. It is operated by “Campus France” under the coordination of the French Embassy in Thailand.
The project proposal in the priority research fields listed below is highly encouraged. It is to support the policies of Thai Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

Priority Research Fields

  1. Future Trends : Digital & AI, Electric Vehicles, Semiconductors, Climate Change & Biodiversity, Biotechnology, Clean Energy
  2. High Technology : Sensors & Robotics, Medical Hub, Aviation & Logistics, Advanced Materials
  3. Frontier Technology : Earth & Space Technology, Nuclear, High-Energy Physics & Plasma Technology, Quantum Technology
  4. Social Sciences, Humanities & Art : Heritage Restoration, Archaeology, Architecture, Creative Economy

Fellowship Benefits

  • For French researchers travelling to Thailand (funded by PMU-B) :
    • A monthly allowance of €1,800.
    • A one-time, lump-sum payment of €2,000 to cover the following expenses:
      • A round-trip ticket from France to Thailand.
      • Domestic transport.
      • Health insurance coverage for the duration of the stay in Thailand.
  • For Thai researchers travelling to France (co-funded) :
    • A monthly living allowance of €1,800.
    • OFII and visa fees.
    • A round-trip air ticket from Thailand to France.
    • Health insurance coverage for the duration of the stay in France.

Funding Terms

  1. The PMU-B co-funding will be provided in a single instalment within one month after the contract has been signed with PMU-B.
  2. The French Embassy co-funding will be provided monthly in France.
  3. Please note : This program does not cover bench fees or provide direct assistance with finding accommodation. However, the host laboratory or the International Relations Department of the host university should be able to offer support in this matter.
  4. For French researchers : To obtain a Non-Immigrant (RS) Visa, you are required to comply with the “Regulations on the Permission for Foreign Researchers to Conduct Research in Thailand B.E.2550” and submit the necessary forms to the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).

    • Submit all required documents via email to [email protected] at least 90 days prior to your intended start date.

2.Selection Process

The selection committee will evaluate applications based on the following criteria:

    • The scientific and technical quality of the project.
    • The methodological rigor of the proposed research.
    • The long-term scientific and/or technical benefits.
    • The alignment of the project with the candidate’s background and expertise.

Special consideration will be given to applicants who have secured additional funding for their project and who hold positions as lecturers or researchers in public or private institutions.

3.Timeline

    • Application Deadline : 31 October 2025
    • Announcement of Results : March 2026
    • Departures : May be scheduled from late April 2026 onwards.

Please note :

    • All research projects must be completed by 31 December 2026.
    • Only selected candidates will be contacted.

4. Required Application Documents

Applications must include the following documents in order:

    1. A completed and signed application form.
    2. A copy of your passport.
    3. An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV), including a full list of publications.
    4. A cover letter explaining your motivation and interest in the project.
    5. Copies of your academic diplomas (PhD certificate).
    6. A detailed research proposal for the international project, including a table of the full project plan and a table of exchange period activities.
    7. An official letter of invitation from the host laboratory.
    8. A Letter of Support (LOS) from the relevant institution:
      • For Thai candidates: A LOS from your home institution in Thailand. This letter must confirm that the institution will manage and allocate the PMU-B funding to the candidate.
      • For French candidates: A LOS from your host institution in Thailand. This letter must confirm the collaboration and state that the institution agrees to host the candidate and facilitate the allocation of the PMU-B funding for their fellowship.
    9. Proof of a scheduled thesis defense date (if the PhD has not yet been completed at the time of application).

Important Note for French researchers coming to Thailand: Candidates are required to submit the application via the NRIIS by their Thai partners.
